            Rhylie Anderson, a senior Communication major from Layton, Utah, completed UNIV 4920: Conflict Resolution/Mediation at SUU to earn a certificate of mediation. This training was given through the Utah Dispute Resolution and taught the students the basic skills needed for proper mediation. The course included 40 hours of training which included in-class training and mock/co-mediation. The certificate of mediation, which will be attached to a Bachelor’s degree, is a great resume builder that will help give Rhylie the edge above those in the workforce.

            This training, which is taught through SUU, gives students the opportunity to earn three credit hours while receiving this training through Utah Dispute Resolution. The training is done on two weekends during the semester and additional course work is done outside of normal class hours, which allows students to take this class on top of a full class load. The class has been available for two semesters now and many students have greatly appreciated the resource that it has provided. It is available for all majors and provides great credentials to students who are trying to set themselves apart to employers.

            This project was completed in connection with SUU’s EDGE program. EDGE helps SUU students plan and complete special projects that help them achieve a personalized portfolio builder. Each project in completely designed by the student so it fits into exactly what they hope to achieve professionally. The EDGE program is designed to give students the opportunity to complete extracurricular work to help give them to real-world experiences to prepare for the career sector.
